The Sailgurus concept was started in 1989 in order to both further the performance of high performance sailors and to find new talent. The international race side evolved strongly by 1992, sufficiently so that Sailgurus members constituted 75% of the Great Britain Youth international team by 1995! This was an achievement which remains unique. With the strong evolution of a structured Youth programme by the RYA, Sailgurus switched their attention to personal coaching for sailors at all levels. Pete was involved strongly with British team members at both the ’96 and 2000 Olympic Games, and were with Team USA members throughout the Athens campaign. He have coached several World, European and National Champions from GB, USA, Sweden, Norway, Canada, Australia plus many throughout mainland Europe.

 

Pete Conway

Pete is regarded as one of the top fast boat coaches in the world at Olympic level. His experience includes coaching Tornados, 49ers, 470s, Windsurfers and Europes to a campaign level, and he has coached Yngling and Laser. In other fields, he has raced a huge variety of windsurfers, dinghies and big boats in various parts of the world.

He was also a key member of the meteorological observation team for the British team at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, and has a reputation as a coach for being able to explain the weather in a manner that is easily comprehensible. This knowledge is also useful as a Big Boat tactician and helm – a role in which he has plenty of success and experience.

Pete is often able to employ highly specialised sailors on request. The knowledge of where to find information is an essential ingredient of his success.
